An intense cell of thunderstorms overnight dumped up to a foot of water in spots in parts of the area, focusing on the western half of Harris County, causing road-clogging flooding and closing school for thousands of students.
Harris County and parts of Brazoria, Fort Bend, Galveston and Waller counties were under a flash flood warning until at least 9:30 a.m. as a powerful storm system stalled over the area, causing showers to “train” over the same places. A flood watch was in effect until at least 1 p.m., the National Weather Service said.Rain was moving out of the area by 7:30 a.m., but it left a giant mess behind it.
